Argento’s Cat o’ Nine Tails gets the deluxe 4k treatment

Barry Forshaw writes: Glad to be sharing booklet essay duties for the deluxe 4K set of Dario Argento’s Cat o’ Nine Tails with Troy Howarth & Howard Hughes for Arrow Video. The July release sees two variants of Dario Argento’s follow up to his debut feature, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Cat O’ Nine Tails. This second entry in the so-called “Animal Trilogy” found Argento further refining his distinctive style and cementing his reputation as the master of the giallo thriller. Co-starring Catherine Spaak (Il Sorpasso) and Rada Rassimov (Baron Blood), and featuring another nerve-jangling score by the great Ennio Morricone (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), The Cat O’ Nine Tails remains one of Argento’s most suspenseful and underrated films. Presented in 4K Ultra HD, it has never looked better, and the beautifully packaged release includes postcards and a fold-out poster, plus an alternative Limited Edition Arte Originale edition exclusive to www.arrowfilms.co.uk.

Second Run are to issue two works by the radical Catalan filmmaker Pere Portabella, The Silence Before Bach and Mudanza. The acclaimed, surreal documentary The Silence Before Bach comprises a series of filmed vignettes, united by the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Investigating the profound relationship between image and music, Portabella’s opulent reverie leads us through the centuries led by the hand of J. S. Bach. Mudanza records the removal of furniture and objects from the home and museum of the García-Lorca family in Granada, leaving visitors able to move freely amongst its empty spaces. Portabella’s film makes poet Federico García Lorca’s emotive and historic absence ever more powerful, evident and heartfelt.
