Those who have relished Tom Weaver’s lively and informative interviews with a variety of genre creators over many years (and in many books), will need no persuasion to pick up this toothsome latest volume, subtitled ‘Conversations with Genre Greats of the 1940s – 1970s’. The best known names here include filmmakers Roger Corman and John Landis, but Weaver’s reach is, as ever, wide – including a fun interview with one of the earliest of Lois Lanes, Noel Neill, who played the doughty reporter girlfriend of Superman in the long-running television series. But every interview here has something to offer, and there is always a particular pleasure with one of Weaver’s books: encountering someone with whose work one might be only vaguely familiar – and the effect – as always – is to send one out to look for their films. Creature Feature Creators is Tom Weaver on typical form – and that’s all that it is necessary to say.
