Screening Space: The American Science Fiction Film by Vivian Sobchack
In its earlier iteration, Vivian Sobchack’s lively, informed study of the American science fiction genre quickly established itself as a standard text on an overcrowded subject with copious insights positively leaping off the page. That book was written in ‘academic-lite’ style – in other words, fiercely intelligent but always accessible. This new edition (with added chapter and bibliography) maintains the high standard of its predecessor. One might regret that Sobchack not cast her net wider to include more current SF films, but that is perhaps to look a gift horse in the mouth. Screening Space: The American Science Fiction Film is an essential book for any serious aficionado of the SF field.
